No help on the rest, but:
While on the topic of XE2 .... Anyone out there noticing any delays in
the responses of the XE2 IDE ???
I am experiencing big delays (up to 30 seconds) in the code completion
responding and also loss of the cursor after an editior window swap for
up to 30 seconds. The embarcadero forum does not seem to have a Q&A area
for these kind of things and I have not heard back from Malcolm Groves
((come in Malcolm :-)) about this. (ahh ! that feels better off my chest
!)
Agree with this. I have an i7, 16GB, 64 bit win 7, top dual video cards,
and SSD main drive. Still experience 10-20 second delays regularly in
XE2. All other apps ok.

Subject: [DUG] DUG] XE2 upgrade
Hi John
I upgraded from D2007 in November.
1 - I am mulling whether to get just Delphi XE2 professional upgrade or
RAD Studio XE2 upgrade....interested in playing/experimenting with
RADPHP ? eg a simple version of one of my apps rewritten as a web app
could be cool and useful... but its only a wish idea and might never
get to it! Anyone think its worth the $300 extra for RAD Studio XE2
upgrade if I am pretty much a pure Delphi guy?
I was also wanting to find a good web development platform and D4PHP
(vers 2) looked promising as it would leverage my Delphi experience.
There were a few issues I could not get past. Not sure it it was just me
or D4PHP
* The help was no help at all.
* There are critical but (almost) unexplained properties that must be
set on controls to get things working right.
* Need to know some Java to get the best from the experience. D4PHP
assumes you know some Java.
* To deploy to the web you neet your host to be using PHP 5.??
* The appearance of your page/controls is not really easily altered with
the standard controls. There are other controls you can buy which look
very good but once again a bit a learning experience with not much on
line help.
Maybe the latest offering is improved on some fronts ??
I would love to hear from anyone who has persisted with D4PHP and
willshoot me down and help me out but at the moment D4PHP and therefore
RADPHP is shelved.
2 ? If I get Delphi XE2 now and add the RadPHP later how much would that
cost ? and is that a practical way to do it if I get it only when I need
it...(ie does it install into the same IDE or is it then a totally
separate product)
Totally separate product.
3 ? I understand that Rave Reports in D2007 is no longer in XE2 ? is
this correct? I use the code based reports and a generic printing unit
(load data on a form and use a generic function to turn the display into
a report ? labels memos grids and all) ? I presume what is XE2 has some
equivalent way of code based reports?. Can it output PDF as well?
(Rave can)
Rave Reports Version 10 is in XE2. All reports seem to make the move to
XE2 without issues. (phew !!)
PDF output is still an option. One strange thing - Version 10 is not
mentioned at all on the nevrona web site.
I thought unicode was going to give me some headaches in upgrading apps
from D2007 to XE2. These di not eventuate although I have to admit not
actually using any unicode features. So maybe I will get the headache
later when I do some unicoding.
