[DUG] Average Salary

I see where you are coming from.
But this isn't just a programmer issue. I remember working for a company in
Auckland where I was expected to turn up for work at 7am every day and
anyone who left the office before 5:30 was "suspect". I was regularly sent
to Sydney where I had to be at the airport at 4am for a 7am flight (in
those days where 3 hour checkins were required). Spend the entire day in an
office or taxi in Sydney, then fly home (never ever put up for the night)
where I wouod finally walk into my apartment just after midnight. I was
still expected to give a debriefing to everyone at 7am.
Yes, that was salary, no overtime, no bonuses, not even a Christmas gift,
just salary - and although I had a training budget, I was never allowed to
be away from work to attend any training. Training had to be done in my own
time, but as I was regularly working through weekends for a customer
presentation on Monday, I didn't have any of that stuff.
