C#/VS is way easier to develop in than Java if you are think GUI. VS
nowadays really shows it Delphi pedigree as does C#. I think C# learnt
many lessons from Delphi so some things are done better. On the other
hand it had to be easy for C++ and Java programmer to get into which has
its own complications. Not really sure about this one.

I would say C# is for RAD where getting product out door is tantamount.
For performance and portability you stick with C++ - especially
performance. And to go beyond one computer, then while there are
bindings for MPI in various languages (but not delphi that I am aware
of), VS is about the only thing that will let you debug MPI with any
sort of comfort.
