[DUG] Future of us Delphi programmer in New Zealand?

Interesting question. It used to be about getting speed of C++ with ease
of use of VB. These days anything with need for speed is C++. Delphi
lost it in the Inprise debacle. Nothing else keeps up with VS. For RAD
programming. C++ is still total pain. C# has a LOT to recommend it. Love
the bound controls. Certainly dont miss typing begin end endlessly.
Incredibly rich GUI environment to work in. .NET overhead not so good.
Till we can be sure that everyone has .NET, it is a pain to deploy. The
old bugbears of "windows only" remain. GUI in java is mega mega pain but
use java a lot for server backends. Actually, do a lot with javascript
and JSP.
Delphi? Well still looking at getting 2009 - life in the old girl yet
and I want to see what the new features will give me.
