In terms of getting started:
you could start here <http://www.marcocantu.com/edelphi/default.htm>
Marco Cantu has other introductory stuff on his website as well as some
great books - however they are not beginner books.
You could also look at the Borland Developer Network
<http://bdn.borland.com/> which has articles, but especially have a look
at the bdntv stuff (movies).
And there is always the faithful oracle
<http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=delphi+tutorial&btnG=Google+Search&meta=>of
all wisdom.
If you don't have yet have a copy of Delphi you can download a free
trial from here <http://www.borland.com/downloads/download_delphi.html>
you can also get the 2005 personal edition - but Delphi 2005 was a bit
buggy (2006 is great however).
Other people will probably have other suggestions
