I agree ! I wrote my own stuff some time ago, and it was trial and error a
lot of the time. I was only playing around rather then being too serious,
and it was only one motor.
I got it to work. It was a project to move a webcam left and right :-) sad
but true :-)

How are the motors connected to the PC?
You can get stepper motor cards that contain all the electronics and some
smarts to drive the motors. They come with drivers and it is a matter of
interfacing D5 with the drivers - a lot easier than designing it all
yourself.
