color:#1F497D'>I’m really not sold on the VCLX project. I will concede
that my attitude is in part based on my memory of the Kylux and .NET disasters
which were admittedly with Borland rather than Embarcadero. However I just don’t
see that it is possible to produce a really excellent cross platform version of
Delphi in 18 months. Maybe by VCLX version 2 or 3 it will be reasonable but
even then my understanding is that most existing development projects (ie any
using significant GUIs with third party components, such as ours) will have no
chance of moving to the cross platform VCLX.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

BUT at least it seems like a logical progression of core Delphi and is
something we will definitely want in the future. VCLX seems like a massive detour
(yet another VCL version!) and a likely waste of resources rather than an improvement

VCLX project for native compiling for Apple and Linux has got to be one of
the best things out there in software land. Speaking as a programmer who
likes sticking to the standard VCL and getting the most mileage out of it
(for reasons of cost, ease of upgrade, and using the free XP/Vista themes
rather than fancy components), I am excited about the possibility of being able
to port programs for linux and OSX. And down the track iPhone and
Android, which are the logical extensions of those and have to be the great
areas of growth in coming years.</span><o:p></o:p></p>
