You have it in a nutshell. 

Having said that, for the type of work I do, Tokyo is excellent. The bugs that I come across are minimal.

My main issue is the cost of third party components, which for me is an additional 2K USD annual maintenance for 3 component sets.

It seems there are 4 options for Delphi/C++ Builder users:

1. Buy a copy when you can afford it and deal with the bugs.
Sometimes (quite regularly if I read the various posts) these bugs are real show stoppers.

2. Buy a subscription and constantly upgrade the IDE/compilers and 3rd party component sets.
Only feasible though if you do enough with Delphi/C++ Builder. And you still need to stomach potentially serious bugs that might well not get fixed for an unknown amount of time.

3. Keep on dreaming that the next release will be production ready and has only bugs you can relatively easily work around.
If that dream would come true you surely won't get all the new features but at least you have a workable toolset. Factor in that the dream might not come true, it has happened before.

4. Say goodbye to Delphi/C++ Builder

Option 1 is (a bit) risky. Option 2 is not always feasible. Option 3 is a pipe dream (?).

It seems to me that BECP needs a better QC process, perhaps by asking the community to help test new releases by offering time limited beta releases for free and discounts on the final releases for people who report bugs?? I guess the fact that ownership changes hands often doesn't help either.

It's never easy...
