In such cases the concerns about the technology in which a product is
implemented are certainly not with the capabilities of the technology since
this is easily addressed by demonstrating the capability of your product
itself. Rather the concern is likely to be one of business continuance.
That is, your on-going ability to find the resources you will need to
further develop and maintain the application, product or service on which
your customers business will depend if they choose your product over the
alternative(s).
You may satisfy someone that the Delphi language has been developed and now
has more features in common with C# than previously. But concerns about a
product not having been implemented in C# (which, I think it is fair to
say, less technical, business oriented people often perceive as synonymous
with .net) do not often stem from a need to tick boxes on a technology
features/capability list.
I should say that in Cameron's case I am aware that there is a specific
issue in that the Flow product provides a scripting engine which itself
uses a dialect of Pascal. So in his case in addition to the business
continuance issue, the users of the product themselves also have to take
into account availability of Pascal skills/knowledge vs the alternatives
(C# / VBScript / JavaScript) more directly. But I think this is a
relatively specialised aspect of concern w.r.t that particular product, and
is on top of the more general concerns regarding business continuance.
imho
The problem has only been made more difficult with the fact that .NET
support has now been discontinued in Delphi with no apparent plans to
replace it and, perhaps to a lesser extent, that developing support for
Windows 8.x for existing (i.e. VCL) application has evidently taken a back
seat to FMX.
I'd like to be wrong, but unfortunately I think that anyone who is
expressing such concerns is unlikely to be mollified by anything that can
be said about Delphi's recent development, current state or future
direction.
