[DUG] Anti virus software

Yeah, good point Ross. After a hardware fix of my pc at my local pc store
recently they recommended using this Microsoft Security Essentials and
removed McAfee, and all seemed to work fine. However most new pc come with a
preinstalled McAfee or Norton. I guess this is not so much that Microsoft
Security Essentials is bad, but more a deal between the pc
supplier/manufacturer and the antivirus company.

Has anybody else have any experience with Microsoft Security Essentials?

Thanks

John Sunshine

Why is no one mentioning Microsoft Security Essentials?

I use avira-free at the moment. Not too unhappy with it, but I don't think

it ever found something that I wasn't actually already aware of being dodgy.

The few instances you wanted to have something checked i could have probably

gotten away with just using the online version of

https://www.virustotal.com/ ... and running it in www.sandboxie.com

If you are reasonable proficient/smart with computers then there is not much

need for a antivirus software running all the time in the background to slow

things down. But I think I will still stick to my setup I have right now,

just in case something slips through - after all I do release my software to

over a thousand companies/government organizations worldwide and wouldn't

want to deal with the blowback/reputation loss if my software ever would

contain a virus.

Kind Regards,

Stefan Mueller

it has worked perfectly for me for the past 5 years (continuous use) and

longer, cumulatively, over the past 20+.

I agree. Every program I have tried has slowed my machine down dramatically.

Ended up uninstalling them all and now run free and wild.
