[DUG] Anti virus software

My anti-virus software is built in. To the user. ;)
In 20+ years of PC use I have had exactly 1 virus/trojan to deal with and
that was the direct result of desperately clicking on a link that I knew to
be dodgy in hopes of tracking down a bit of ancient software (a driver for
an aged HP scanner). The McAfee AV installed at the time didn't help one
jot.
Which isn't to say that I've never used AV software myself, but I generally
avoid the big name packages like the proverbial... Norton, McAfee etc, all
as bad as each other ime and none of them are 100% effective. The worst
case of an infected system I had to deal with - someone elses's - had
enterprise ESET installed. We ended up wiping that system and starting
over.
Personally, Avast was the one I stuck with for the longest period, but it
started throwing what I strongly suspected (and in some cases knew for a
fact) were false alarms - I suspect that they are happy for you to use
their free version only for so long..
So now I stick to the AV wetware between my ears. It's completely free and
it has worked perfectly for me for the past 5 years (continuous use) and
longer, cumulatively, over the past 20+. :)
