[DUG] OT - Win8 check favour

I find the whole not writing of data files under Program files kind of
laudable, but a heavy handed way to solve the problem. The effect is I
install my programs elsewhere so as to avoid issues of where I can write
some data - which is one simple ini file which basically says where
everything else is. Was already too much work getting that one file
reliably under program files.
Its not helped that the main offender against this noble idea of separation
of programs and data folders is Microsoft itself - as they put their MS SQL
databases under program files.
