Just a thought, but do you need a native iPad app or can you get away with
an iPad friendly web app?
Frameworks like "Sencha Touch" and "jQuery Touch" allow you to create web
applications that virtually behave like native apps and you would not need
to have any apple machines apart from maybe an iPad to actually test it.

I see that there are all sorts of hacks to get Mac OS to run in a virtual
but Im not sure I want to go down this route. Especially as we are going to
have to apply for dev licenses etc from Apple. So now I guess I have to
factor in $1000 for a cheap (new) Mac and $99 for a dev license, before I
can even start!
