[DUG] XE2 SP3 Code completion

I haven't been using XE2 heavily yet - still initial setup and testing, but
from my impression so far it looks leaner and tidier than D2007 which was
already a pretty sweet IDE.

Installing my limited set of components (for which I have source and was
wondering if they would work ok) and Turbo Power Abbrevia (Sourceforge has
an XE2 version) all took 1-2 hours and projects were building and running
fine. So far with careful research and planning for what needs to be
altered for Unicode the impact has been refreshingly little so far and
*most* stuff just works as is.

Only reason I haven't switched totally to XE2 is that I still have work to
do on a lot of library routines that use TFilestream on ASCII files - which
is an area where the differences with Unicode show loud and clear.

It would be frustrating if they have broken basic functionality in order to
have FireMonkey work a few percent better.

It always seemed likely that a cross platform VCL would need 2 or 3 releases
to be remotely ready for primetime so I'm not too surprised (though I am
hoping they can pull it together faster than I thought and have it working
well for XE3).

Arguably what is more important right now is that XE2 delivers solid
performance for compiling VCL32 and 64 bit apps since that would drive some
upgrades on its own. It sounds like it currently doesn't.

We decided not to take the Delphi 2007 to XE2 upgrade offer simply because
there was so much mucking around getting my All Access version of XE2
installed (you may recall my post in December about Toolcloud problems) that
by the time I got it installed yesterday the upgrade offer had already
expired making the whole goal of testing it out in advance impossible.

I'm pretty confident there will be another upgrade offer when XE3 comes out
anyway because there must be a lot like us stuck on Delphi 2007.

Cheers,
David.

I hear they about to release update 4 for XE2, also this might be the
last update for XE2, not 100% sure on that

Overall XE2 is very buggy, in saying that they have done a lot of fixes
in the last 3 updates, I mostly being using XE2 for the firemonkey
stuff, which the more I get into the more confidence with I have with
it, but there are way too many frustrating issues/bugs with firemonkey.
I am sure XE3 is going to be better version
