If I understand you correctly - my sister swears by Access for this sort of stuff – visual tools are its strong point. Get an ODBC driver and connect it to whatever DB (she connects to Oracle or DB2 etc) and uses it.

I'm getting a bit tied up with 20 tables and interlinking. Any idea of a free table viewer ?
SQL workbench is only Portrait view and things just don't fit very well.
