Hi Kyley,
Out of curiosity what model is the main solid state drive that has the VM on
it?
We have a couple of development machines with SSDs on them and they are
faster than the others but not by nearly as much as you found (more like
approx 30s -> 15-20s). OTOH we are just using standard Intel X25-M G2s and I
believe there are now faster drives.
>From our investigations it appeared write speed is the hold up so either you
have SSDs with blindly fast write speeds or something about your VM
configuration is allowing it to compile everything without waiting for the
writes to be committed to the physical disk. The latter could make sense
since the disk Delphi is writing to in the VM is just a virtual construct
anyway.
David.

for the last 2 years I've been using Vista 64 bit Quad Core with 8GB
Ram, and Normal reasonably fast HDD's
I run Delphi inside a VMware machine running XP 32bit, with 1.5GB ram
allocated.
doing a full build of my main app is 953000 lines or so and takes
80seconds or so..
Just got a new machine with windows 7, running the Same virtual
machine. but the Win 7 is using only solid state drives. 100GB and
220GB
Doing a full build is only 11 seconds..
Worth the money? Very much so.. Time savings over a day is quite large
with the overall improvements
