[DUG] Delphi XE (2011)

I would be happy to pay twice the usual price for OS/X and Linux compilers.
I get asked a few times a month if my software works on a Mac.

Ross.

Hi,

I'm also in the "underwhelmed" category at the moment.

Like Jolyon I have not been impressed with the handling of the release (so
far), but on the other hand I think we have seen some pretty good comments
from the likes of Allen Bauer on what has happened, and where they are
going.

For us, there was never looking to be a lot of interest in this release
(having zero interest in OS X or Linux), but I am pleased to see that the
new roadmap suggests there are no *additional* delays for 64-bit support in
Delphi, which is our biggest requirement at the moment.

As for the "included" items, well we already use AQTime and Finalbuilder, we

had a bad experience with CodeSite a number of years ago and PHP is of no
interest. We don't use SVN so have no interest in that, although if somebody

uses the "new, improved" API's to build integration for the source control
system we *do* use (SourceGear Vault) we might look a bit more closely :-)

I have also seen some comments about improvements to generics, which could
be of interest. So far every time I've looked at them I've hit immediate
show stoppers - maybe they will work sufficiently this time around.

Cheers,
Alistair Ward.
