I have been lucky each time I upgraded - essentially it took around 1 hour to get working with the new version.
D5 to BDS206
BDS2006 to D2007
-installed the new version, installed a few generic components -- have source for all *(see below)
(you need some notes how to do this with D2006/D2007)
-Copied source to a new folder (kept old folder just in case)
-altered all the paths in dproj and other files as needed (have program to do this)
-Started recompiling usually within an hour of installing
-in every case never needed to open the old IDE again - Never used the older version ever again for any work.
35 projects and 70 misc test programs.
migrated whole lot each time - no issues.
-Its really not that hard!
-In my case the advantage is I use only VCL for almost everything, so the VCL upgrades to newer versions with no issues.
* (complete list here of installed components, is pretty minimal but not nothing either
FindFile in 'TFindFile\FindFile.pas',
hahFindFiles in 'thahfindfiles\hahFindFiles.pas',
jbclColorButton in 'jbclColorButton.pas',
PgCtrlTree in 'PgCtrlTree.pas',
CSDBGrid in 'CSDBGrid.pas',
QProgBar in 'QProgBar.pas',
CalcExpress in 'CalcExpress.pas';
probably also KBMemTable
)
