[DUG] New Microsoft menus

I have always liked the combination of a scollable list of items or a
treeview or buttons on the left vertically, and each one selected brings up
a different page on the right. First saw it in the Eudora Mail Options, its
also there in the Delphi IDE Options and Project Options. In lots of
programs as well - Skype, Firefox all have forms of it for their options. A
sort of enhanced page control.

Funnily though its not in the VCL - would love one! Could write one as a
combination of a listbox etc and a page control but haven't got around to
investigating it yet...

What do you guys think of the departure away from text menus and tool
buttons, such as in Office 2007 and IE7. As a user I find it irritating and
prefer to look through a tidy list of menu items than a scattered set of
horizontal options.

Is anyone planning to use menus this way in their apps?

And another trend I'm seeing is scrollable options pages. You need to
scroll down to see all the options and settings. It's similar to viewing a
web page I guess, but I've never done it this way. I use multiple tabs in
tab sheets.

Any thoughts?

Ross.
