We have been using SubVersion/SVN for a couple of years now - with
Tortoise shell integration.
Works great. Can be used with any file types or IDE system (or
otherwise).
And also integrates with other products e.g. bug tracking systems, so
you can fire off stuff whenever a commit is made etc.
Also costs next to nothing.
