You could also download and install the Windows version of Lazarus. Once you get your code compiling, you know it will also compile on Linux, so then you can sort out Lazarus on your Linux box.

has anyone tried crosskylix? I unfortunitly left Kylix at work, so I couldnt try it lastnight :-)
I have installed Lazarus, but man, it reminds me why I am not a Linux person ! It wasnt all that straightforwad to install then when it DID install, the menu link didnt even work !
I had to manually find the file it was trying to run.
THEN, I get an error about not being able to find a unit, and the forum said about recompiling this and changing that....atleast under windows, in most cases, stuff just works.
Notice I qualified that with "in most cases" :-)

well....simple. I have Kylix sitting in front of me on a CD :-)
Here is what I am trying to acheive.
I need a wee app. that will run like a windows service, I guess its a Daemon in Linux, that looks at a dir. for a file,a nd if the file exists, send the contents out a comport or better still TCP Port to an IP address
Its not rocket science, but liek I say, not being a Linux person I am not too clear on some of the bits and peices around linux, but I DO know that most of the controls I would use are availible for Kylix and I use them in Win32, so I have a head start there....sort of :-)

Just like to say, why Kylix? Kylix is obviously dead.
What about FreePascal + Lazarus? is that an option for what you are
trying to achieve?
