3 books:

1) PickAxe - (programming ruby, 2nd edition) - it is actually included as
part of Ruby!
2) Ruby for Rails - explains what it is that Rails is actually doing and
*how*, which is quite important in understanding what on earth is going on
3) One of the rails specific ones. http://pragprog.com/titles/rails2/ is the
one I got. There is a free PDF on using REST in Rails as well floating
around (28 pages or so, very easy reading).

I do things "properly", so I read them 1, 3, 2 but others who are keen dive
straight in at 3.
