[DUG] Windows UI during Screensaver

Does anyone know what happens when the Windows screensaver comes on - I
suspect a program keeps working (eg if there is a timer it keeps firing) but
it seems to me that Windows turns off any screen updating.  I guess the
logic is "it can't be seen so I won't update it".  Or does this affect only
some UI components - eg canvas draw - which is a more primitive level of
drawing?

Anyone else had to do special catering for when a screensaver comes off?
