[DUG] Delphi disappearing from taskbar

I've used all versions of Windows and from Windows 95 onwards, I've only seen this happen when Explorer has crashed. It's up to the individual applications to re-create the system tray icons when the tray is re-created after an Explorer crash.
When explorer closes and is re-started, it does not know what was in the system tray previously, nor what is supposed to be there. When the shell re-starts, it sends a system-wide broadcast message, WM_TASKBARCREATED. Since this is a broadcast message, all running apps are supposed to hear this message and if they have system tray icons, recreate them.
I recently had a complaint that my app was not doing this so I investigated it and modified the RxTrayIcon component I use to check for this message.
Ross.

Its a bug in Windows, fullstop (ie in all versions). Despite the three major rewrites they have done. :-)

I have seen this with other icons also disappearing from the task bar. A
rare occurrence but I am sure!. I am fairly sure this is a bug in XP, as it
is not to do with certain programs - eg sometimes Outlook disappears,
sometimes Firefox, sometimes something else. The Alt/Tab list does still
have it.
Related is the one where the task bar icon is highighted (ie has focus) but
the window is nowhere to be seen. I have to minimise and maximise the
window sometimes a couple of times to get it back in front. This is a bit
more common on my PC that the first one...

Hmmm, yup that puts it back, I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation
for this - but I doubt I'll ever know it

If you have D2007 installed, minimize and maximize the IDE. If you
don't have D2006 installed - then I happen experienced it myself.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but from time to time
D2006 vanishes from my task bar - I can still get to it via alt+tab,
but it's just bizarre.
