I am impressed by your modesty - for those who didn't know this web
contribution is by Jeremy himself.  This looks exactly what I was wondering
about "how do they do that?"...

Check out the TActionManager component and various controls on the
Additional tab. There is a demo that ships called Wordpad. It is in the
\Demos\ActnBands folder.

You can also create your own custom styles.
