PostgreSQL Is Really Great also!!! And Yes, Access is great for one person
apps, Quick and Dirty solution there. However when you need to make it
multi user on network there is so much that needs to be done to keep it
reliable and still that is no guarantee either.

If your going to move to c/s with 50 users then MS Access is a really really
bad choice.
MS Access is just a desktop DB, the performance goes through the floor after
about 5 users logged in.
Like you I started with MS Access but soon found out it was a big mistake.
Just a tip, FireBird is really good, but NexusDb is brilliant and would be
my first choice.
Anyway just my 2C
