Absolutely. Personally I always take a spoonful of salt when reading articles like that.

I'm not against .Net either. Actually, .Net as a framework is a very good thing, I think. What I hate to see is if the main proponent (MS) treat it as a fad and dump it later. DDE->OLE->COM->COM+->COM+2...ooops replaced with .Net....

The promises (reality now?) of .Net are good for developers, it sure makes life easier for us in many ways. But do the users really benefit from it? They benefit from more reliable program (say, may be garbage collection make program not to gobble up memory and crash), but real, productivity type benefits?

A word processor or spreadsheet is beneficial, hugely, to users who need them. A .Net version of a word processor is not such a big jump (if any!), from user perspective, from a win32 version.
