To be honest I'm not sure why there is so much negative speculation.
New software development companies would rightly choose .NET (or Java etc)
for their development. But for existing companies which have a significant
Delphi library/application code base I don't see anything which is
particularly worrying. The fear seems to be that .NET will kill Delphi...
but keep in mind what .NET is. It's effectively an interpretation engine and
code library with multiple front end syntaxes such as VB and C#.
If .NET really is the holy grail (and I have some reservations at present -
I'll be more impressed when Office, Exchange, SQL Server etc are written in
.NET) then all is not lost... So long as Borland can produce a viable Delphi
syntax for .NET then we just join the new wave - with some migration pain
along the way I'm sure but it's not the end of the world. The question is
whether Borland can produce a viable Delphi syntax for .NET. Delphi 2005 has
its issues (I hear) but even so it seems that the will is definitely there
to move with .NET. I know we will be picking up Delphi 2006 when it comes
out, if only to begin familiarising ourselves with the various language
options.
David.

Some links from another newsgroup... looks interesting.
A roadmap to possibly dispel all the loom and gloom??
