Yes I see.  I didn't read your message quite right.

As others have hinted at, it should only take a couple of seconds to search through 7700 files in a directory and put relevant ones in a stringlist.

  Think you got the wrong idea Ross. I am SEARCHING FOR zip files, not searching them....well I WILL be searching them when I have isolated the files I need, but this will be done via a VCL control.
