[DUG] Delphi .Net Compatibility

OK then.

If you want to go to .NET then rewrite in C#, otherwise stick to Delphi
because there is no real reason to move away from Win32 at this point.

So IMHO forget .NET. It wont offer you anything in a legacy app and it's not
really worth the rewrite I wouldn't think. Win32 aint going anywhere. Vista
is going to have win32, so any depreciation of Win32 is at least one OS
release away - who knows what the landscape will be by then.

BTW I use C# for all new apps, but am not even considering re-writing legacy
apps. The only rewrite I would consider at this stage would be to an AJAX
style ASP.NET app, as I have a feeling this is where apps are heading in the
next 10 years - especially if Google have their way....

Come on. I can't believe that you guys have nothing to say about Delphi
.Net and Delphi Win32 compatibility?
Maby this would have been better as a friday question?

How compatible is Delphi .Net with Delphi Win32 code (Delphi 6 to be
specific)?

The application I work on is a large ongoing project that has been in
development since Delphi 2 (possible even Delphin 1).

I don't really know much about it, but I assume that the compatibility
is such that we could upgrade our internal code without a huge problem,
but third party components could be an issue!

We use quite a few Developer Express components and there is an Express
Quantun Grid for Delphi .Net, but other things such as the Express
Layout Control, the Express Printing System, etc. We also use many
others such at Toolbar 2000 and GLScene.

The next thing is .Net compatibility. Lets assume we use Delphi .Net and
develop some nice stuff. For whatever reason Borland or Delphi dies (Not
saying it will happen. Just Hypothetical. I don't want to get into this
now.). So we have some Delphi .Net code which compiles to .Net 1, 2 or
whatever. How likely is it that we could continue to use those
assemblies with C# in say .Net 4.

Thanks

Stacey
