We had quite a turn out a John Kaster yesterday, which would suggest the
(Auckland) community is still there... However yes, most of the
existing crowd seems to be well experienced (but not nessarily Guru).

The Delphi Community is probably not getting smaller, but Im also not
sure how well advertised the list is, so some of the newer converts may
not know about the list at all......

I can't help with this, but your other comments...

I have been thinking about this too. I think that a fair number of
people have moved to .NET (I admit to using C# a lot), but also I think
that the people who use Delphi now are pretty much high to guru level,
so don't need much help anymore. The list is relegated to one off
questions of an unusual nature.

Back in the day Delphi was new and exciting and people were learning
what it could do etc, so of course there would be more traffic. I guess
it does highlight the fact that there are either - not many new people
to Delphi, or not many new people to the list (or both).

Thoughts?

Hi all in (what is left of) Delphi-land

I have been asked to investigate the possibility of migrating my cgi-app
from firebird db to Informix Dynamic Server 9.4

While I am trawling the net for info, is there anyone out here who has
experience of the differences between the two and how they would affect
my app?

>From what I can gather I will need to go to dbExpress.

I am currently using IBDatabase, IBQuery, and IBTransactions to
manipulate my data. At a quick look it looks like all my Db code will
have to be changed.

Any further tidbits of info are welcome. (This could even breath some
life into nzDUG list)

Have a great day all

Tracey
