[DUG] Storing extra data with a component

I have source code but its more complicated than that. I want to minimise
edits because source code is thirdparty. Moreever, "TMyComponent" is
tied to a toolbar component. Press the right button and TMyComponent is
created, not your desired descendent. Now you can arrange for the 
descendent to go onto the toolbar as well but more complicated to remove
ancestor. All possible but I am looking for minimum work, minimum edits to
3rd party code. At this stage, it is clear that my own storage is 
preferable but thanks very much for the comments and suggestions.
