I used to have friend whose policy towards his employees was

Explain it to them the first time, abuse them and tell them the 
second time and ignore them after that.

The worst part is when you have taken the time for documentation, and then
people are too lazy to read it and go staight to you and ask,  RTFM!!!!

I have, in the past, been told not to waste time on unproductive tasks such
as this...
Glad I don't work at those places any more...

It seems inversely proportional - The amount of documentation vs The amount
of talking about documentation and the need for it!
