Hey, did you not see the grin ?
I know, that most of us DO not document enough. I used to do
good documenting when using macro assemblers. I think I am
almost back to that level again. Anyway, I improve everyday. :-)

I disagree wth part of the statement about documenting.
FIRSTLY, it always assumes that the person reading the code knows something
about the business processes behind the reason for the code, and second, you
sometimes have to decipher what the hell the programmer is on about.
We had a guy leave 2 years ago now, and his response to documentation was,
if you cant follow the code, look at the stored procedure....yeah RIGHT !!
Needless to say, it was not that straight forward :-{

Well :-)
If you were a good programmer then these things would be documented. If I
were employing you and you were considering leaving then I would hope for as
much notice as possible.
As an employee, I only ever felt this loyalty once. My boss wept when I
told him I was leaving and started promising whatever I wanted. I still had
to leave and I found my replacement before I left.
The replacement was very good but the boss did not get along with him. :-(

I've been considering changing jobs for some time now - mostly to keep my
sanity. However there is so much stuff that I am responsible for that no
one else knows about that the company would have some difficulties if I left
and I would feel bad if this was the case. I guess this is probably a
common problem when working for a small company .
Does anyone else feel stuck in a job through some sort of misplaced loyalty?
