Yeah, well I am the developer, my business partner is the salesman/customer
support, and finance person, but I know what goes on etc.
We have been working as we are now for 2 years, that is, salary slave all
day, self employeed code cutter at night....and weekends from time to time.
I have thought about contacting back. They have done this already with
someone else who left, and it worked ok.
Its less of a finacial burdon on the company (my one) if I was extracting
some $$ form somewhere else, but then, as I said to my business partner,
until there is a years salary in the bank, I am not going full time, and he
is totally in agreement. He has another business which pays his wage, so its
no biggy to him.....BUT, last time I looked, we are only a few sales short
of the total, so any month now !!
But yeah, you are right, being self enployeed is great, but also bad. Its
YOUR budget not the companies, so it hurts more to spend it...hehehe

I have been in a similar situation. Maybe you could negotiate with them the
ability to contract back to them when you leave. I managed to do that.
BTW grass is always greener etc. I have done both - been self employed, and
been an employee. Both sides have positives, and both sides have negatives.
If you have definite financial security as a contractor / self employed,
then its brilliant, but that's not always possible. I am currently a salary
slave. Luckily I am the guy in charge of IT, so have the final say on IT
issues which is good, but I still have to fit in to other peoples hours and
show up on time everyday etc.
Being your own boss is great and would recommend it to anyone who has the
chance. It can also be a PINTA. Invoicing, dealing with tax, GST, etc are
all things that I can do without....
Good Luck Jeremy, I genuinely wish you all the best.

But it is hard, because I want out of my current role now, but I now they
would be stuffed if I did, and it does play on my mind. End of the day tho,
its not my problem, its theirs for no proper stucture, and letting key
personal leave, but still.... :-(
