[DUG] Traffic Builiding Question.

We're a small company with 3-4 employees/contractors including myself.

We use Delphi for our products which are mainly traditional style
client/server, rich interface, software packages. A lot of our code is non
visual though, including a business object layer, calculation and drawing
code, our own components (or modifications to others components), a service
or two, etc.

With a large established code base and a well customised development
environment (eg components, form hierarchies etc) we obviously aren't keen
to consider a rewrite. Nor at this stage do I see any benefits whatsoever in
moving to a different language (eg .NET) for our application. If anything I
foresee issues, such as performance, as well as the obvious expense and time
which would be required.

However I am pleased to see Delphi.NET out there and to see the developers
of most of our third party components adding support for Delphi.NET. If
Microsoft stays the course with .NET (not entirely certain IMO) then I can
see there might eventually be a compelling reason to move in which case it
will be easier to go via Delphi.NET than to any other .NET language.

BTW Been using Delphi and on the list (off and on) since about 1996/97.

David.

Interesting set of people.

I myself work and use delphi for my own products, and I see its life as
happily lasting as long as Win32 exists for my own products,
in contract work it looks to be dead to me.

I've been monitoring this list for many many years.

Used pascal and borland since Turbo Pascal 3.? 14 years or so.

I've noticed the trend that employees and contractors see no life for
delphi. But small company product builders like myself are quite
satisfied with it.

regards.
  K
